First Man In: Leading from the Front
by Ant Middleton
An interesting a mostly gripping read. The author recounts several tales of his life and uses each to illustrate a technique in leading people, whether or not you actually have the authority to lead. The author has led a life very different to many of us and has been in situations that most of us would only experience through watching a Hollywood action film. Some parts of the book are shocking; the author doesn't let up on the detail even when he is describing what it is like to kill another person.
Towards the end of the book, though, the author's attitude begins to grate. He is bold and assertive but that pattern of storytelling becomes too dominant after too long. He begins to come across as arrogant which is a shame as this marrs an otherwise great read.
Still, this was certainly a different read for me and by virtue of large text was a surprisingly quick read!
