A Destiny of Dragons by TJ Klune

"For my eighth-grade creative writing teacher who told me that my stories would never amount to anything.

Suck it. "

First of all, as someone who loves reading the dedication in the books, this one was gold. It just goes along perfectly with the novel itself, snarky and so TJ Klune. And also reminds of the fact that I hate how my kindle starts me past this page when I open a book so I have to scroll back. annoying!

Anyway, onto the book itself... This book, although snarky and sarcastic and awesome, was a little more serious. The tone is different. Dont worry there's still plenty of word vomit from Sam and Gary and Tiggy are still amazing.

"I forget how bitchy Knight Delicious Face can be sometimes,” Gary whispered to Tiggy. “Makes me want to lick his face.”

“We lick him later,” Tiggy said.

“Oooh,” Gary said. “Deal.”

Sam has a destiny no matter how much he doesn't want one. This is told to him by his long lost, possibly vindictive, grandmother. It's also reiterated by a talking constellation. You'll get it once you read it. I swear. As the title says Sam is in need of dragons, so him and his merry band of loveable crazies head off in search of just that.

It is hard to describe their journey without giving too much away. We find out who the evil is and some of the story behind it. I believe there is more to that story to come. There are secrets, so many secrets kept in this book. It seems like everyone knows something we don't.

We meet Zero, the emo dragon which was hilarious. Dear god is that what I get to look forward to when my kids are teens!? Learning about him was fun and one of my favorite parts of the book. A dragon who wants to make everything beautiful: just adorable.

" Your heart is an astonishing thing, Sam of Wilds. I’ve never heard one beat quite like it. "

We get little hints about what is to come from our star dragon. As always, he is vague which irritates not only Sam, but me. I want to know!!! I get the feeling he may be helpful later. However one thing he says made me super nervous

Spoiler "The road to triumph is littered with sorrow. It is the way of things. For there to be success, sacrifices have to be made.”

I swear to you TJ if you kill off knight delicious face without Sam being able to bring him back I will hunt you down. I swear it.

There are still 3 dragons left to round up at the end, and one evil villian to vanquish. 2 more books left. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.
