I've followed Trung on twitter for a number of years now, so I knew this book was going to be gorgeous. I anticipated the delightful characters, the beautiful clothes, the lush and fantastical aesthetic. What I was most decidedly *not* ready for was being punched in the heart several times in the most lovely and healing way. And I was not expecting to see my own musings on the taxonomy of fairy tales, the connectivity and evolution that keeps stories alive and makes them a part of how we understand and bear human existence, reflected and explored in a way that I've never actually been able to articulate.
Please, read this graphic novel, as a favor to yourself.
Moderate: Death and Grief
Minor: Emotional abuse, Homophobia, and Religious bigotry
Stylized violence consistent with the fairytales being retold.
