I needed this book to pull me out of a reading slump and boy did it deliver! Female rage, dragons, fuck the patriarchy and a badass FMC, what more can a girl ask for??
Aemyra is a queen by right but a blacksmith by day. She must use her wits and fire magic to overthrow the corrupt patriarchal reign of kings and restore her kingdom to its former magic (and with it the dragons).
I LOVED Aemyra the FMC - an imperfect woman that personified female rage. You’d be angry too if you’ve been through her journey. Strong in will and magic I have never known a character written so intentionally.
Hazel McBride’s writing is full of vivid details and I often had incredibly detailed scenes playing in my head reading this and listening to the audiobook. (Would highly recommend also) The world building was phenomenal. 🤯
There is a romance element to the story but it’s not the main focus of the book which I did not mind at all. However Fiorean is a complex MMC and I just feel like there is still so much we don’t know about him..
All this to say, I had a great time and am at risk of falling into another reading slump after this.. Unless I could have the next book in my hands now? 🫠 26/5/26 I am marking the calendar!!
