Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? No

The older I get the more I realize how ridiculous it is that we think 17/18 year olds can run a country/ pull off great political feats while swimming in thoughts of " omg triangle point b is so jealous I looked at triangle point c for soooo long". It's a little ridiculous that our fmc helps plot the deaths of people and doesn't take into account that they will have people that mourn them after pages of discussion on the loss of her own people and those who mourn. That throws her for a loop? Of course, in fantasy worlds all adults are evil and idiots. Regardless, this is YA fantasy and for what it is, an interesting story.  There is some major foreshadowing that gives away what is coming in the end. I have a feeling it will be a theme through the series. It's paced well enough and the story entertaining enough to make you want to move onto the second book.
