From the very first page, I knew this book wasn’t going to be a high rating. The dialogue is in single quotation marks which I dislike as a personal preference and the writing style felt rather young. While the dialogue itself does feel like a genuine conversation, it also feels bloated and unedited, like a transcript of a conversation rather than a piece of fiction. The protagonist is unlikeable in the way a seventeen year old(?) is, and feels more like her diary entry where she goes back and forth between her feelings. I started thinking about DNFing seriously in chapter two where Molly asks a question and the text says “Turning in my seat, I’m like ‘Is it okay if we don’t?[…]’ “ and this happens several more times, dialogue starting with “[Character’s] like” instead of says or something else.

eventually they make it to the house and find evidence that the people they’re looking for were here, and Iris chooses to stay instead of telling the police that they have a lead on a missing persons case. They know YouTube ghost hunters disappeared in this house, and choose to stay there despite being YouTube ghost hunters. When iris gets physically harmed, they still choose to stay. When it gets dark and they see that Zach and Lucas were here and seeing things, they choose to stay.

I only gave this book this long as I was reading it for a challenge, but
in the end I made it to the end of chapter ten before deciding to look up reviews because I was surprised Goodreads had a 3.5 rating.
Usually I wouldn’t look at spoiler reviews but two I saw in particular about the ending solidified that I just wasn’t going to be happy about the book in the end and I was wasting my time on a book I wouldn’t like in the end.
