The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

“I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet."

This was beautiful. This as in the writing really. There were so many perfect moments within this book which felt as if they were meant to be quoted years later. With that being said, something about this didn’t completely sit with me. I wish I could identify what my issue with it is, but I am quite stumped. I tend to adore character based books featuring complex characters who are certainly not well. However, something about this book didn’t impact me as much as the rest. I’ll keep thinking on it until hopefully I know where my qualms rest but until then I will remain confused leaving behind a 3.5 rating.
