For The Love of Whiskey by Melissa Foster

3.25

4/5🌶️, Libby ebook, part of a series and huge book universe but ok as a standalone, very light motorcycle club, western, FMC escapes a doomsday cult, MMC is part owner of a recovery ranch (for people and horses), instaconnection

This one was so much better than the first book in the series that I DNF’ed last week. I’m glad I stuck the series out and learned an important lesson about reading books I’m not really interested in just to read a series in order. This story is about a woman who escaped a cult and is taken in by a family who owns a ranch that helps people and horses recover. The ranch sounds like a pretty cool place with free therapy and equine therapy and cabins to live in all over the property and a chef to make everyone’s meals. Sign me up! Anyway, the MMC is overprotective but also recognizes that the FMC was never given freedoms in the cult as such he supports the FMC in making her own decisions, which I really appreciated. The relationship happened quickly, but that was addressed and I like that just when you think the 80% breakup separation is happening, they both decided they are better together despite all the obstacles the may face. There is a lot of mature behaviour in this book, everyone talks about their feelings, goes to therapy; I would say the book is very low angst that way. It was a sweet book, not overly deep or groundbreaking.
