I read and absolutely loved the first book in this series 10 years ago. I did not like this one as much although I do enjoy the author/translator’s writing style. This one was too long (531 pages) and the story dragged a bit as a result. There are also portions of it that I am still confused by, including the ending. Overall, it seems that Ruiz Zafon was trying to fit too much in here and with more editing, I think it would have appealed to me more.
