Things I Wanted to Say, But Never Did
by Monica Murphy
TW: sexual assault, rape, slut shaming, abuse, toxic relationships, toxic family members.
To say this was a waste of time would be an understatement. I was so frustrated with this book; there is no development or redeeming qualities or anything, just sex scenes and people abusing each other. Instead of having actual conversations the leads ended up having sex over and over again until suddenly they were like “this must be love”
The worst part about his is how this book handles the heroine’s sexual assault and rape (mind you this happens several times in the book) which is to say she really doesn’t...says she’s damaged because of it, that she was looking for it, etc. And then from one moment on that plot line is forgotten. Oh and the hero upon learning she has been raped and assaulted since she was a child was like “well, whatever” This story could have been an opportunity to examine how her first sexual experiences colored her view of sex and why she liked being humiliated and the difference between consensual rough sex and assault, but alas, this wasn’t it.
I’ll stop now because the longer I think about it the angrier I get.
