I’m going to start this review by saying I definitely enjoyed this novel much more than the previous one (and only because I hate the trope of the character losing their memory more than any trope that exists…) THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!

I am so happy my baddass Charley Davidson is back! She has her memory back, a spiffy new apartment and a hot as hell (pun intended) husband (that she can actually remember which is nice). It only took the first word for me to be drawn back into her crazy world and it felt nice to be back. Darynda has created such a unique story with baddass characters that truly add to the story, and I love reading just how much these characters have grown and developed throughout the series.

My love is like a candle. Carry me with you and I’ll light your path. Forget me and I’ll burn your fucking house down. —T-SHIRT

The tenth instalment to the Charley Davidson series featured all the things that make this series great; her quirky best friend Cookie and her cutie of a daughter Amber, Rocket and Strawberry Shortcake, some serious PI stuff, a green mini van with some EMF-ing business and of course, some sexy times with a smoking husband (and just so much more).

‘If one door closes and another one opens, your house is probably haunted’ – Bumper Sticker

This book was packed full of stuff that kept you wanting to know exactly whats going to happen next (which is why it took me a total of twenty four hours to read). I personally love the PI stuff and the mystery it contains, especially when it links in with Charley’s Grim Reaper skills like it did this time around. There were multiple mysteries throughout this novel and although I do like having layers of mystery, it did start to get too much.

‘Hearts are wild creatures. That’s why our ribs are cages’ – Author Unknown

My main negative for this instalment would be how much information Darynda seemed to dump on us. At many points, I had to re read whole pages as I seemed to be attacked suddenly with all this new information which just swirled around in my brain, unable to connect to other bits of information throughout the story. (And I don’t know why, but when Charley uses ‘hon’, it just annoys me…)

‘ “I pee in the dark baby”. “Which explains why you stub your pinky toe so often.” “I am the definition of adventurous.” ‘

But God, once I did get my head around all of the new information, Charley and Reyes’ life seemed to just get more and more complicated. The fact that they are both Gods, and not only that but the seem to be Gods from complete different ends of the spectrum makes it seem like they should absolutely hate each other, not be married to each other! But I mean, they’re Gods, I reckon they can do whatever they want… And boy oh boy did it annoy me for basically the first half of the novel when they seemed to be pointedly ignoring each other in a way that they just wouldn’t talk to each other… It really got on my nerves but I was just so happy when they finally got over themselves and decided to open up!

‘I tried to start a gang once. It turned into a bookclub’ – Meme

When Reyes voices that he doesn’t think he’s worthy of Charley, or their daughter my heart seriously broke. He may be the son of Satan but he deserves all the happiness in the world!! And when he calls Charley sweetheart I get this huge grin on my face that I can’t wipe off, mainly because I’m a hopeless romantic. I was heartbroken when Kim was revealed to be inhabited by one of the Gods, and at the moment that Reyes broke down, I knew how much Charley loved him. She did what she could to bring him back from his devastation and they really supported each other which I loved reading.

And of course, the chapter titles gave me so much life and I related to way too many of them!! This was a wonderful and intriguing novel that kept me hanging off the edge of my seat until the last word and I will now have to impatiently wait for the next one…
