My first 5 star read of 2023! It was so intriguing reading these collection of fictional short stories about different Black women and girls. I love how it highlights hypocrisy and double standards (and forbidden affairs 🫢) in the church while also exploring love and relationships.
Philyaw writes in a way where you get so attached to the characters that even after their story ends, you wonder what could have happened next! My favourite stories were “Dear sister,” and “Peach cobbler” and “How to make love to a physicist.”
