Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko

3.0

Amazing to see one of the best music videos ever created realised into an entire story. I was so excited to read it because how important the music video has been to me. I am not a massive fan of stories where the larger chunk is dedicated to a conflict between the protagonists so the pacing was off. As for the writing style, it read very much like a polished Wattpad book. I think certain sections of the book needed to be drawn out and expanded upon, and others needed to be cut entirely. I feel this book could work better as a film as that’s what drew everyone here in the first place. Enjoyed but would give a 3.5.

‘Last time I walk away from her.
“Coley?” I turn.
Last time she looks at me like this, like I’m the world and the moon and the entire universe she’s losing.
“One day, I’ll be as brave as you,” she tells me.
Last time she shatters me with her words.’

“You were the first person who ever taught me that I’m someone nobody missed.”

‘I don’t even know if she knows she’s like this, melting sweet and finally free, if maybe this is only something you can see in sleep.’
