And They Were Roommates
by Page Powars
Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read And They Were Roommates by Page Powers.
I loved the tension in this book and the journey of learning to love oneself and another. The element of writing love letters—and Charlie finding his own way to do it—was a meaningful step in his journey toward love.
Jasper was a complex character; he was difficult to like, but I think that was intentional. Charlie’s frustration toward him was palpable, and as a reader, I felt the same way. When Charlie started letting his walls down for Jasper, I found myself doing the same.
I do wish there had been more exploration of how the school was impacted after Charlie told the headmaster he was trans. This felt like a pivotal moment in his coming-out journey, and I would have loved to see how it resonated beyond his personal experience.
