As someone who loved reading fantasy novels as a kid, I am shocked it took me as long as it did to start reading this series. However, after watching the new Percy Jackson TV series that came out on Disney+, I decided it was time to give it a read.

The Lightning Thief is a fun, adventurous light read that is exactly what you want out of a premiere novel in a fantasy series. It introduces you to our main cast of heroes: Percy, Annabeth and Grover, and gives you some insight into the world that they live in, surrounded by Greek gods and mythology, as well as what it is like to live as a half-blood.

I also very much enjoyed the neurodiversity representation that is present within the series, with all of the demigod children having both ADHD and Dyslexia. I am aware that Riordan's is neurodiverse, and that he wrote these novels to give him a sense of representation, and for the time that The Lightning Thief was written, I think he did an excellent job. As someone who got diagnosed with ADHD in her early adulthood, this kind of fun fantastical explanation of ADHD is something that I definitely would have found comfort in when I was younger, and a part of me still did reading it now.

I can't wait to finish the rest of the series!
