The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

4.0

Rounded up from 3.5. I read a couple reviews which prompted me to add this read to my list. I knew it was a thriller/mystery so I think I found myself suspicious of everyone and everything. Seems as though all the male characters in the story are unreliable, pompous, and questionable, perhaps that was the author's plan. In this story we are shadowing two characters, with deep traumatic scars from their past and how the selfish/careless actions of the ones they loved caused the two to converge. The psychotherapist, Theo, made me cringe from the beginning. Alicia, was determined, annoying, clingy, with some deep mental health issues and apparently didn't truly know her husband -- having so much blind faith in a person is dangerous and can cost someone their life. It wasn't until the 4th qtr, after yelling for the character to speak and tell her story that I started to make the connection. It was a good read(listen) and by the 4th qtr the twist was evident (maybe for others it was much sooner) and I was not disappointed. But I waited for justice/the outcome/gotcha moment with bated breath. I would suggest this read to patient reader that enjoys psychological thrillers.
