It happened again but also I can't believe that I have never reviewed my favourite book of all time. Time to change that.
MY FAVOURITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!
I don’t even know where to begin because I honestly adore this book so much…So much… The Sign of Four is the second outing of the world’s best (and most adored) detective. I think we need to clear a couple of things before I review this book. I fell in love with Sherlock Holmes when I was fifteen-years-old and I’m glad to say that seven years later, I still feel the same way after I finished A Study in a Scarlet. I also adore everything Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has done so expect zero levels of criticism in this review.
I don’t know why this book is my favourite of the Sherlock Holmes series or my favourite book of all time but I’ll explain what I admire of this.
1.Perfect characterisation of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. I feel like the Study in Scarlet was entirely like an introduction and in this book, I feel like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle completely settled into his own and this book is just seamless.
2.THE PLOT. Every single Holmes story is insane. This one tops the lot. The mystery, the intrigue and the drama – everything just makes it perfect. I can’t even explain how much I love it.
3.Mary and John’s romance is quite cute for an 18th century romance. He doesn’t want to be with her if she was rich as he didn’t think he’d be good enough. Watson should know he’s good enough.
4.The Baker Street Irregulars. I love these guys. I just do and it is an ingenious idea so I’m so glad these were introduced in this book.
This book is just perfect and I need to stop before I enter a dissertation level on how amazing this book is. Just pick it up or don’t. I don’t even care cause this is my favourite.
Side note:
I feel like the BBC adaptation of Sherlock needs to come into this review because I love and hate it so much. I love it because I love anything that has Sherlock in it but I also hate the Sign of Three. I try to understand Moffatt and Gatiss’ interpretation, I honestly do. BUT THEY RUINED MY FAVOURITE BOOK. It is nothing like the book and when I’m in a bad mood, I just want to throw that book in their faces because they ruined it. RUINED IT.
