Extremely defensive position from the author. She tries to justify her choices when an outside perspective from the reader makes it clear quite easily that they're the wrong choices and often for the wrong reasons. Even so it's interesting to have this insider perspective even if it is biased and paints all others in a worse light while spinning a woe is me tale.
