The Other Boleyn Girl
by Philippa Gregory
I could barely put this book down!
Although this is historical fiction, it is quite true to what actually happened.
Mary Boleyn is a young lady of 14, when she comes to court, gets married and then catches the eye of King Henry VIII. She quickly falls in love with the king, although she's serving Queen Katherine in her court. At the push of her families ambitions, she beds the king and has two children by him (Catherine and Henry). But since she's not married to him, these children aren't to be his heirs. While giving birth to her second child, the family pushes her sister, Anne Boleyn, to the forefront. After 5+ years of flirting, tempting, and doing everything but actual intercourse, the king finally divorces Queen Katherine and exiles her. Anne marries the king and quickly has a daughter, Elizabeth. However, she is brash and tough on her husband, the king. And she soon teaches him how to treat her. Anne conceives and miscarries 3 children. No boy to be heir. In the end, the Boleyn name is looked down upon and spoiled.
