spectacledbear 's review for:
That's Not How You Wash a Squirrel
by David Thorne
funny
lighthearted
fast-paced
Parts of this book really made me laugh out loud.
Unfortunately some parts made me really uncomfortable. Thorne has a tendency to be cruel and insulting about women who don't meet society's standards of slimness and beauty.
His humour is observational and exaggerated, which is why it's funny, but the way he talked about women in quite a few of the stories/essays was unnecessarily mean. He's insulting about men too, but not about their looks.
Not sure if I'll read more of his work - the laughter might be worth it. I do hope, however, that this isn't usual for his books.
Moderate: Body shaming
