The Wife's Tale: A Personal History
by Aida Edemariam
challenging
informative
slow-paced
This book is well written and well researched, but my preferences as a reader did not gel well with this book. The author blended the history of Ethiopia alongside a biography of her grandmother, but I was hoping for more emotions and the sections of the parts of her life pulled together with more summaries or gaps filled in. However as the author dud not want to deviate from anything that was incorrect, it felt jarring as you are pulled out of an emotional moment of the story, then given further history or the next part of her life. I had got involved with the protagonist and wanted her story to continue. So I think this genre does not work fir me, but it is a well constructed informative boom.
