رسالة الغفران by أبو العلاء المعري, Abū al-ʿAlāʾ al-Maʿarrī, عائشة عبد الرحمن بنت الشاطئ

Reading the Epistle of Forgiveness by Abū al-Ala’ā al-Mā’arri was a milestone for me and I just finished it ✅
It was dense, playful, daring for its time, and quite witty
I can see how it influenced Dante Alighieri and others. Many archetypal references make more sense now..

Not only Dante, but I see his language craftiness, cynicism, melancholy, wisdom and esoteric spirituality resonating through the likes of Rilke, Pessoa, Alkhayyam, Ahmed Matar and other renowned poets. I find it both curious and very fitting. His style in prose and poetry remain unmatched. He retains a pronounced presence and subtle musicality that will remain inside me for as long as I lived.

Poets hold the special feat of trickling inside you and edging on the tip of your tongue with bursting flavor at the opportune moment. Giving substance to mundane observations, and an exquisite tranquility that distills your worries and troubles into mere imagery. Abū al-Ala’ā could paint a world in a couple of words, and call you out before you knew what hit you. He is that one sound that over-lasts the echo when all the other voices had dwindled down and faded away..

He would appreciate the irony of rating him with stars
