First if you hate cliffhanger endings don't read this until the next book is out.

This Kate Shugak is about two feuding villages. One of the villages decided to stay old school and the other village is taking advantage of all things progress that they can get. The most recent flare up of the feud starts with the death of a young man from one of the villages that is only missed because he is one of their own. In steps Chopper Jim who no one wants to talk to because he is the law and thus other. He gets Kate Shugak's help but she can't get much more out of the villagers since they seem to see her as a busy body female. Kate is having to deal with impending major change and boredom due to not having to work for the first time.
