I am really quite surprised that the author is not a woman. He captures a lot of the angst that women feel. I enjoyed the cultural experience of the food - the importance of each dish and the way it is prepared. It was illuminating to understand how generational differences in the Indian culture ebb and flow - how becoming American dilutes the heritage, and yet, with age and a learned respect, the importance surges again in order to preserve the love for family.
