Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband?
by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn
I nearly put this down a few times for a feeling like I was being spoon-fed punchlines, but 1/3-1/2 of the way through, Yinka’s thoughts, actions (and jokes) became more complex and interesting, as did the world and people around her. By the end, I was sincerely empathetic to her pains and fond of the friends and family she had introduced us to. Her experiences at the intersection of being a modern, Black, first generation British-Nigerian woman deserve a spotlight in any reading list!
