Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne
5.0

Low Down's name is about the only thing about this story that seems hilarious to me.

Unfortunately, the deception that was inflicted upon the hero and his family is not at all uncommon. Even today.

I thought Low Down was terrific, I liked her spunk and tenacity. I also was impressed by her honesty. This was my first Maggie Osborne. I have since looked for all of her books. She is great but none have been as great for me as Silver Lining.

I just reread Silver Lining, and I just had to added my thoughts to my old review which seems insufficient.

I initially read this novel years ago. I found an old copy in the quater bin at my library's used book store. I thought for a quater, what the heck. That was the best quater I ever spent on a novel.

I kept that copy and reread it a number of times. Somehow, I lost my copy. Looking through some "historical fiction" I came across this novel and decided to reread it to see if I still felt the same way about it.

Low Down is wonderful. She has self respect, wit and intellect. She also has a basic moral code that shines through all of her actions. I found myself once again enthralled with her honesty and her mostly unapologetic way of being.

The storyline is novel, for me, I have not read many romances like it. I felt sorry for Philadelphia, to a point. I also found her deception to be believable, as that kind of thing still occurs today.

The novel feels more charachter driven that plot driven. I enjoyed the romance between Low Down and Max but mostly I just enjoyed Low Down.

The ending was too abrupt for my liking but I don't know if I would have tired of reading of about Low Down even if the book had been much longer.

Maggie Osborne is hands down one of my favorite authors in the romantic fiction genre. I have enjoyed everything that I have read by her, however, this novel surpasses not only all of her other novels, for me, it is one of my all time favorite romantic fiction novels. Really great book!!!

All I can say is that I am
