Greywaren by Maggie Stiefvater
2.0
I so nearly DNFd this, and, tbh, ended up kind of skimming towards the end. The last couple of chapters were a nice pay-off, but the bulk of it was a mess. This trilogy started really well, but went steadily downhill. Part of the problem was having really the most interesting character asleep for about 4/5ths of the book. But... I hate to be unkind, but I think Stiefvater is trying WAY too hard to be cool and is getting progressively more carried away with her own cleverness. I was a big fan early in her career and still think The Scorpio Races is under-rated. And even more so was All the Crooked Saints. But the Raven Boys and even more this trilogy feel like they're being written for an audience, not because they have something really important to say.
