"'I’d wait forever for you, and I’ll sit with you every day in the darkness until you find the light. You are the very air I breathe, and when I’m away from you I can’t take a full breath. Love feels like such a trivial way to describe the way that you make me feel, Aria. You make life worth living again, and risks worth taking. You make me feel alive.'"

The start of this book PERFECTLY captures the dark, unhinged & hilarious vibe of this second story. When Aria & Matt meet one another for the first time, their energies match in the best way and let's just say... that energy is maintained throughout the rest of the story... it's amazing! If you dig Brynne Weaver's world, then you'll like this book too.

"'Hey, Baxter, you’re a cutie and all, but you’re kind of beating up my guy... [the bad guy "falls"]... I took out two guys.' I beam a smile at him, proud of myself. 'I beat you!'
His brow furrows as he wipes blood onto his suit jacket. 'What? Are we really talking about body counts right now? It’s not a contest... Focus, Aria.'
'In bed, or in the grave?' I quip back."
💜
The author really woke up and chose violence with her second book… and it’s incredible! Stepping away from the ranch, we dive into Matt’s world as a “fixer” for several cartel “family” organizations. He’s no longer the quiet, brooding bartender/owner. We get POV chapters from him that are glorious as he works through the steps of “fixing” a scene. But he isn’t the only dark character in this story because Aria’s feisty personality has a morally grey side too. Her borderline deranged actions make this book so entertaining. It’s got satisfying “unaliving” madness, a hilarious foul-mouthed leading lady, spicy scenes for days, cartel card games, fancy clothes/cars/apartments, biker couple moments, a tortured-yet-still-swoony third wheel, and it lives up to its title of “devotion.” This is action-packed, high-stakes dark & moody entertainment!

"With him, I feel complete, as though he’s the spark to my flame. Without him, I am dim. But with him, I blaze fiercely, ready to take on anything that dares to challenge us."

While this story is significantly spicier & darker than the first in the series, it levels up in every way possible. It kinda feels like it should be a movie because it takes us out of small town Cedarbrook, Arkansas, to big cities Chicago & Miami. There are fast cars, expensive clothes, various weapons & methods of "unaliving" someone, cartels & corrupt family organizations, and, if it couldn't get any better, there's a heated card game scene too! This book has everything! (And if you read that in Stefon's voice from SNL, then you fully understand my soul!)
