The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

5.0

“If it hadn’t been for the gang, Johnny would never have known what love and affection are.”

I honestly don’t know where to start with writing a review for this book. The Catcher In The Rye has been my die hard favourite for the past 3 years or so, and now after reading The Outsiders, it’s sharing it’s number 1 place!! I feel kind of nervous to try and ‘review’ this book, but I’m going to try my best...

The Outsiders is about The Greasers, and the rich Socs, who are at war on the Tulsa streets. Ponyboy, a 14 year old brawler, chainsmoker and dreamer, is a fiercely loyal Greaser. But a single catastrophe is to wrench him from his old life and overturn everything he thinks he knows.

This book is just perfection. From the first chapter, I was enthralled and I couldn’t put it down. I became so attached to the characters, in such a short space of time (130 pages!) that I was quite shocked. What I absolutely loved about this book was that although these boys are portrayed as tough and hard, they care for each other so deeply and you can’t help but feel deeply for them because of this. My heart absolutely broke into bits reading about the three Curtis brothers, and also the fellow Greasers Johnny and Dally!
