This book was a nice, quick read. I didn't realize it was the fifth book in this series, only having read Wild Seed, but it was so easy to pick up and get into.
I love the world building of Octavia Butler and it is great here. The way she describes the Pattern and the way people interact through it is so fascinating. I also really enjoyed the creative fight scenes that were often both physical and mental. I have continued to think a lot about how she describes these mental battles, the way people close themselves off, put a shield up, or open themselves to others. It feels very real to how humans actually interact just with a more tangible connections between human brains.
Also I love how Octavia Butler writes so openly about people with fluid gender expression and sexual orientation.
