Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune

3.0

As you can see if you read my review of the first in the Cerulean Chronicles, the characters who live on Marsyas Island are simply amazing in all the best, most magical ways. In this second book they will be put to the test - who they are, how they live, and what their lives will be like.

Arthur Parnassas wants to adopt all the children, making their relationship legal beyond that of fostering them. This is the complicated story of what happens. I liked it yet it was a difficult book for me to read because, despite the magical aspect, the story seemed more like realistic fiction and less like magical fantasy. In and of itself that's not necessarily an issue, but I wanted the latter and not the former.

The reason for this is surely that it is now October 2024, the United States is grappling with who to elect as the next President and the outcome of that vote will have a major impact on both the States and the World. Yet it goes beyond that to the very personal - who the next President is will have an enormous impact on the quality of life of the people who live in America. One person wants to extend liberty and justice for all, and one person wants to - in accordance with Project 2025 - dramatically curtail liberty and justice for all. Very frightening.
