Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata
3.0
This was such a unique book to read.
Furukura is a psychopath, just that she isn’t a serial killer, although she definitely has the tendency. There were so many points in the book where I actually agreed with her. Things like the role of capitalism in our lives, the societal expectations and pressures, especially for a single woman who doesn’t have much going on. The pokenosing, the gossiping, and all that noise is just so overwhelming. I honestly wish people would just live their lives and not bother about others.
The book also made me think about how humans are way more alike than we usually realise.
It’s a really weird book to rate because it touches on so many societal abnormalities, but at the same time, the conclusion was just strange. Shiraha was such a weird character too. I honestly hate his guts so much, what a failure of a human being. He shouldn’t have even been born.
Anyway, it was a different genre for me, and I’m glad I got to see the world through a unique mind like Furukura’s.
