Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney

5.0

having not liked Normal People, I was very nervous about reading this book.
turns out, i fucking loved it. i don’t know if it’s just because i could much better connect to these characters or what, but i was in love with 3/4 of the main cast almost immediately.
the friendship between Alice and Eileen, the romances (well, one of them), the meditations on politics and religion and happiness, all felt so raw and vital and just honestly exactly what i needed right now.
this is four stars for me instead of five only because i absolutely hated one of the main characters (though i admit this is also just further indicative of Rooney’s great writing—that she so perfectly shaped this infuriating character) and also the ending felt a little bit rushed.
…but maybe that’s just because i didn’t want it to end. rip to me and my feelings, i’ve been emotionally destroyed by Sally Rooney.

*update i changed it to 5 stars because i’m weak
