The grammatical structure of this book made my eye twitch.
It is very well written, but would not recommend to the faint of heart (or stomach). Based on actual historical practices, where there aren’t really any good guys, only varying degrees of incompetence, sadism, and denial.
There is no real hero, only a main character who often gets lost in the shuffle of all the characters present.

Graphic: Animal death, Child death, Gore, Torture, Violence, Blood, Murder, Alcohol, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Rape
Based on historical scalphunters - the main character joins a band of (mostly) Americans paid by Mexicans to kill Native Americans. Does not shy away from barbaric actions perpetrated by all of the aforementioned groups and details most of them explicitly, but also almost…nonchalantly. There is no real hero, only a main character.
