Neon Gods by Katee Robert

4.0

As a whole, I wish this story was longer and less spice focused but overall I did enjoy it.

This book is more spice/adult content focused than I prefer. For that reason it would not be fair for me to give this an overall review because it would be lower due to me personally not liking spice as the focus. So, for my review I am ignoring that portion of it and rating specifically the plot and character development. 3.5 (I put 4 since I can’t do half ratings).

I absolutely loved the authors modern and complete unique take on Greek mythology. The idea that “Gods” are actually humans and their power comes from influence was amazing. The position of Zues and Hades is passed down through generations just like a king would be. But the other positions of Demeter, Hermes, and the rest of the 13 main gods in greek mythology as an elected position was unique and amazing. The entire world building system was unique and honestly I wish this was a longer book or even a series and the author was able to explore this further. I was incredibly impressed with all of it.

For character development, I did not love this as much. My biggest issue was it felt like everything happened very quickly. Since this book takes place over 1 month it just felt slightly rushed. However, I was still fully invested in Hades and Persephone and their love story so it was still written very well, I just would have liked it more if there was more build up between them.

Again, I really felt like the spice was too much for my preference and felt like it took away from the story. But this authors writing is geared more towards that should I won’t fault her for it. The story itself was great aside from that.
