The main story, of the Brinker family, is interesting. A mystery, noble characters, etc. And the writing is good. But the author added SO MUCH non-fiction to the main story. Whole chapters about the history and culture of Holland. It wasn't told within the story well. It was like a non-fiction book crammed into the fiction book. We persevered to the end, mostly to find out the answers to the mystery. The girls said they'd give it half a star. :-)
