The Anatomist's Wife by Anna Lee Huber

5.0

When I read this series for the first time, I didn't have my Goodreads account set up. So now on my second read through of the series in anticipation of the new book coming out next week, I can post a proper review.
I love this series and Lady Darby. I enjoy all the characters, but Kiera, Alana, and Gage are my favorites to read about. The Anatomist's Wife is the first in the series and has an engaging mystery and a lead character with an intruiging past. Historical mysteries are, hands down, my go to genre and the Lady Darby Mysteries is one of my favorite series in the genre. I'm thoroughly enjoying them on my second read through.
The mystery begins right on the first page and keeps you guessing and determined to solve the mystery right alongside Lady Darby. Upon my first reading I had narrowed the guilty party down to two possible suspects. I hadn't successfully narrowed it down to one until very shortly before the reveal. Some mystery books fall into setting up alleged high stakes, to only fall flat when everything comes together. But the stakes were appropriately high in this book as Lady Darby came closer to solving the crime and thereby putting herself into the line of danger.
100% would recommend to any fans of historical mysteries.
