mysteriousnorse 's review for:
A Princess of Mars
by Edgar Rice Burroughs
I think this deserves more like 3 1/2 out of 5, but I'll give it the higher score given its deserved place in sci-fi history. The first half of the book is the best plotted section, as the second half is bogged down by summarized battles. The most interesting thing about this book is that it is more of a fantasy tale set in space, as such, you can definitely see how Star Wars was inspired at least in part by it. It also contains a mixture of science of the time, which has become a standard for most later science fiction. This is Burroughs first novel and it is easy to see the start of his legendary career in this book. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys pulpy fiction, serials from the 30s. Star Wars, or Conan style adventure stories.
