The Disquieting Death of Emma Gill: Abortion, Death, and Concealment in Victorian New England by Marcia Biederman
3.5
A really interesting story that would have been so much more interesting had it been better written. It's a shame, but it was such a slog to get through and it really shouldn't have been because not only was it short, it was the kind of topic that's catnip to me. And while brevity can have its pluses, I do feel that the story would have benefited from quite a bit more broader historical context.
