I loved this book!

- Worldbuilding
- Considered fantasy bc of the magic system.
- Romance: Slow burn (NO SPICE BUT STILL SO GOOD) (romantic tension) (Kissing)
- Witty banter (SO GOOD!)
- Enemies to lovers to enemies
- Dual POV
- Knife to the throat
- He kills for her
- "Who did this to you?"
- Hunger Games vibes
- Red Queen vibes after the halfway point.
- Age level teen and up

This book had me squealing like a high school girl (I'm in my 30s and married for 15 years). I love a female character who doesn't go anywhere without a knife/dagger and pulls it on people all the time, especially someone's throat. Pae is one of those characters and she would be my best friend!

The book does start off a bit slow, but that is due to building the world building, getting to know the characters, and the magic system. Getting close to the middle it begins to pick up and then stays pretty consistent.

I enjoyed the depth of the characters. I love them both! Kai and Paedyn are some of my favorite MCs. Kai is an amazing book boyfriend! The things this man says to Pae... just...you will understand! Paedyn is fierce and I how she is not afraid to put a knife to a man's throat.

Be warned the last 50 pages will upset you. Some people were able to predict it. I didn't see it coming till I was coming right up to it and it caught me off guard. I was too busy enjoying the movie in my head to think about what they ending was going to look like. I did not know this was not a standalone so that is part of why it was not as predictable. If I knew there was a book 2 I could have mentally been prepared to have a rough ending. lol

Also want to note that I have not read Hunger Games and it is beginning compared very closely to it.
