Another great Connelly novel, this one with Harry Bosch slightly in the shadows, with Maddie coming to the fore, and Renee Ballard truly starting to shine.
I always enjoy that these books are more than just one crime, from start to finish. This one covered a hot lead in a rape/murder case following DNA evidence being submitted for another crime; the theft of Ballard's gun and badge, and her discoveries when she tries to get them back without alerting the higher-ups; and evidence about an almost century old series of murders/disappearances.
Ballard is a flawed character, as is Bosch himself, and I enjoy the contradictions in her life.
Lots to keep the pages turning, the best in a while
