This was a weird one to rate for me. While I loved the interconnected story and pretty writing the very matter of fact smut was a bit off putting at times. Though I will say it had some of the more creative euphemisms I’ve read, and they fit the story and characters well. I don’t necessarily mind sex as a plot or character building device as opposed to romance, but it was just a little too casually written here for me.

I also think I would have liked for it to have leaned more into the magical aspects and romance. By the end I was a bit confused about what the actual point was and if the two central character actually should be together. As is it feels incomplete, like it wasn’t sure what genre it wanted to be. The modern day stuff especially didn’t really fit with the rest and kind of felt like an author self insert fantasy.

Unfortunately I think after reading this, and some of TJ Klune’s books, I much prefer sex (even gay sex) written by women.
