The Clockwork Girl by Anna Mazzola

I very much enjoyed reading this book! I found it while looking around a bookstore, I had not heard of this book before and the premise sounded very interested. I was quite intrigued and excited to read it, but I also did not have many reasons to be disappointed for I did not have high expectations and I still have not heard anyone talk about it.

The story this books presents, the setting and the characters were very interesting to read about. I don't think I had ever read a book set in mid 1700s Paris, so that was a good start. I loved that all three main characters - Madeleine, VĂ©ronique and Jeanne - were all women and we could see how different were the worlds they came from. This book also does not take any liberties while describing the dirt and lousiness of Paris, it doesn't shy away from describing the lowest of lowest and that makes it interesting.

The plot itself was also very interesting. I would not call it "gothic" entirely, I did not really have goosebumbs or anything like that. But it was still quite interesting and I badly wanted to know what was going on.

Overall, this read might not have been the greatest of all but I still enjoyed it very much and plan to read other books by this author.
