Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson

4.0

Surprised at myself for really liking this. I'd only read Rogerson's An Enchantment of Ravens beforehand and absolutely did not like it, so I began this with a mound of salt.

The lack of romance and the drama that usually accompanies it is particularly refreshing, especially since it opens up more opportunities for actual plot to flow, and I'm so intrigued by the world's Hierarchy of Spirits and nature of possession. The developing bond between Artemisia and the revenant is the most important relationship in the book and I'm curious to see how it will further evolve in future installments.
