High Mountain Court is the second book I’ve read recently that felt like a long prologue and only got interesting in the last third. This last third is my reason to give the book three instead of two stars because the plot was so good then, and I’m curious to see how the series will continue.

Until now, this feels more like the introduction for the whole series. I’m having some problems with following the story but I’m already predicting that Remy is Hale’s lost soulmate . Hale, the love interest, is nothing special, he’s of course big and muscular.

I’m quite bored with the book currently, there’s just lots of worldbuilding. I also don’t like Remy that much; she’s kinda not like other girls, and her jealousy is annoying.

The romance/tension between Remy and Hale is the most interesting aspect of the book yet. But in general, the book feels very trope-y, there’s just nothing new. We have the “breath she didn’t know she was holding”, and a ball. At least the travelling is over by now.

This is like the second book I’ve read where the book only gets interesting after the first two-thirds. The secret identity reveal is intriguing but also cliché. The sex scene was also written a bit weirdly, I don’t know .

Like I’ve noticed before, this last part of the book is definitely the best. There’s so much drama and revelations, like the death of Remy’s brother which was so sad. The only trope I dislike is this fated mate stuff .
Graphic: Death, Sexual content, Violence
Moderate: Animal death, Body horror, Gore, Grief, Death of parent, Alcohol, War, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Child death, Abandonment
