This is a beautifully written book and if you are at all a lover of the sea or particularly a surfer (I’m not) the descriptions of surfing are clearly written by someone who knows the heady rush of a good wave. These moments are some of the rare happy moments of the lives of three boys living in a household with an abusive and neglectful father. Underneath the father’s current abuse is also a darker secret. The story is set in coastal Tasmania where the family make their living from abalone fishing.
