The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

3.0

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! I’ve loved all the stories by Sally Hepworth that I’ve read so far and was looking forward to this one.
The premise here centers around Pippa and Gabe, a couple who live with their two children near a well known suicide spot. Gabe has acquired somewhat of a hero status due to his efforts in talking people down from the spot. However, one day, a person still jumps despite his efforts. It looks like things are not what they seem. The book is told from the POVs of Pippa and the victim, and jumps seamlessly between the past and present. What I really liked was that I could not tell what direction the story was going in - I had to keep reading to find out more. You slowly learn about the main characters’ pasts - there’s also a few misdirections! However, the ending seemed a let down after the build up. The other thing was that none of the characters were really that likeable, so you’re not that bothered about their fates.
Overall, a fast, twisty read and one to get you out of a reading slump!
