SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas
1.0

You can disagree with someone and still think some of their views are right. You can be unstable and still be a wonderful person. Absolutely true.

I read S.C.U.M Manifesto for an assignment in one of my colleges classes. It was not for me. I’ve been part of inpatient situations with angry, revenge-seeking people just like the writer, and I wasn’t surprised to learn about her history. It’s incredibly sad, but that’s no excuse. I was shocked (but in a way, not shocked) to learn she tried to murder Andy Warhol. In a way, she did eventually kill him through her actions.

There’s way more to S.C.U.M Manifesto that neurotypical people don’t see, but is clear as day to others like myself. But that doesn’t make her violent beliefs or actions justifiable. I understand, but I cannot, in good conscious, think the manifesto is something to live up to or idealize.
