Godsgrave
by Jay Kristoff
This book didn’t live up to expectations for a sequel. I normally find myself enjoying the second book more than the first, but i found this one a little bit harder to get through. I just didn’t really find myself wanting to pick it up, even though it was alright.
This one has a slightly different setting and therefore a different vibe than the first book did. However, the writing style is similar so I feel it does come down to a whether or not you are a fan of Jay Kristoff’s narration in this.
The first had more of a school vibe, perfecting crafts, competition, Mia coming to who she is. This second one has more of a gladiator setting, and Mia is somewhat refining who she is.
I’m also slightly confused on how I feel about Mia/Ash. I think it’s more along the lines of me not caring too much about Ash’s character. I wish Mia found a woman more like Tric, who I feel brought out a humanity in her. Ash and Mia just don’t seem to have a lot of chemistry to me, not really that Tric and Mia had too much either. I did prefer the juggle of hate/love that Tric and Mia had to whatever Ash and Mia have. Like I said, I just wish she would have found maybe a different woman.
