Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto
4.0
Quirky and cute mystery! The novel centers around the eponymous Vera Wong: nosy tea shop owner turned amateur sleuth after finding a dead body on the floor of her shop. Convinced that the detectives can't possibly sniff out the killer without her help, Vera launches her investigation, bringing together a group of suspects to relentlessly interrogate and bribe with delicious home-made dinners.
Vera is a relentless yet hilarious protagonist—determined to meddle in everyone's business, but you still can't help but love her. Though Vera is clearly the star of the show, the cast of supporting characters—Riki, Sana, Oliver, Julia, and Emma—also adds depth to the overarching narrative. Each one has a unique backstory and connection to the killer, and watching Vera investigate them (read: bully them into confessing) was delightful.
Anyways, I'm now taking applications for an elderly auntie to meddle in my business and cook fabulous meals! Detective work and solving mysteries is a plus.
